Description
The card code is the 3 digit secure code on the back of a Visa, MasterCard or Discover and the 4 digit code on the front of American Express credit cards.  This code helps to validate that the customer is in possession of the actual credit card and the credit card processors will usually return a code indicating if it is correct or not.

It is strictly against Visa and MasterCard regulations to store the CVV or card code in any sort of persistent storage.

The store will ONLY ask for the card code if you are using a real time payment gateway to process credit cards. This information is never stored.  If you process credit cards offline you must do so without the CVV code.

Visa and MasterCard regulations stipulate fines of up to $50,000 per occurrence for storage of the card code.
